There has been a lot of talk about the many health benefits of coconut oil during the last few years. This product is so heavily promoted that most people don’t even stop to think about whether or not it also has side effects. Despite the fact that both the internet and magazines have been flooded with positive claims regarding this type of cooking oil, certain scientists are now stepping up to shed light on just how unhealthy aspects of coconut oil are.

Coconut Oil Health Concerns
Back in August, Harvard professor Karin Michaels gave a lecture at the University of Freiburg called “Coconut oil and other nutritional errors” in which she warned people about the extremely high saturated fat content in this type of cooking oil. She called it one of the worst things you can eat and even referred to it as pure poison. It’s important to note that this substance has higher saturated fat content than lard and butter.

Consuming too much saturated fat can lead to heart health problems because it raises your bad cholesterol levels. Aside from professor Karin Michaels, the American Heart Association also decided to do some research on coconut oil and found that while around 75% of the US public believes it to be healthy, only 37% of nutritionists agree. The British Nutrition Foundation also noted that there is currently no strong evidence that supports that there are many health benefits associated with coconut oil.

Unfortunately, it seems that whenever there’s a huge trend in the world of nutrition, it takes time for the public to become aware of unfortunate downsides. Because of this, it’s always important to learn as much as you can about a new substance before adding it to your diet. It’s also recommended that you don’t immediately jump on the bandwagon as soon as there is a new diet trend.

Camellia Oil Health Benefits
If you do some research, you’ll see that there are actually many different types of cooking oil that you can choose. One of the most popular types may be one you’ve never even heard of. For example, camellia oil is a great addition to any diet since it mostly consists of heath-healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.

Camellia Oil: Highest Smoke Point
Apart from being made up mostly of good fats, camellia oil is also recommended because of its high smoke point of 485F, which is higher than that of coconut or olive oil. The smoke point represents the temperature at which the oil starts breaking down and giving off toxic fumes. Thanks to the polyphenol content of camellia oil, the fatty acids that are vulnerable to heat damage are protected. Otherwise known as tea seed oil, it helps balance your cholesterol levels and lower your blood pressure because it is rich in flavonoids like catechins.

Camellia oil has anti-inflammatory properties thanks to polyphenols such as saponins, kaempferol, and triterpenes. On top of that, it contains vitamins A, B, and E. Not only is tea seed oil an extremely healthy alternative to coconut oil, but it also has a very mild taste, so it will never interfere with the flavors of other ingredients. This means that you’ll get to enjoy both a tasty and healthy meal when you use this type of cooking oil.
